Thunderwolves add Czech forward Tomas Soustal
THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO - September 17, 2018 (LSN) Lakehead University and the Thunderwolves hockey team are pleased to announce that forward Tomas Soustal from Sternberk, Czech Republic has committed to the program.
The 6’2”, 195-pound centre played four years of major junior in the Western Hockey League, his first three in Kelowna, B.C. where he tallied 46 and 47 points respectively in his second and third seasons as a Rocket. Soustal wound up a productive WHL career as a member of the Edmonton Oil Kings with a 62-point campaign in 2017-18.
Soustal twice played in the World Junior Hockey Championships, suiting up for the Czech Republic national team in 2015-16 and 2016-17.
Thunderwolves’ Head Coach Andrew Wilkins said “I’m pleased to add Tomas Soustal to our roster. Tomas is an offensive forward that brings size, skill and high-level game experience to our team.”
For Soustal, returning to Canada has been a long time coming after spending the last six months back home in the Czech Republic. “It’s been a lengthy process. I had offers from a lot of different schools, but it’s great to finally be here,” said Soustal, who just arrived in Thunder Bay late Friday night. “I have two brothers living in the Boston area, so I’m happy to be relatively close to them. And I’m excited to start a new chapter in my life as a student athlete at Lakehead. The team looks good, the campus is really nice and I like the business program here. That’s a good start.”
