THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO  -  December 29, 2017   (LSN)  Cambrian Players is extremely excited and proud to announce the new Home for Cambrian Players. After 70 Years, we now have a space to rehearse and house our theatre sets, props, costumes and tech equipment that is all our own! 818 Spring Street!

The non-profit community theatre group has bought the former Polish Hall on Spring Street in Fort William.

“This will be a wonderful new year for Cambrian,” says Cambrian Players board president Eva Burkowski. “After 68 years we finally have our own space to store sets and costumes, rehearse and run workshops.”

Since its founding in 1949, Cambrian Players has operated out of a series of rented spaces, most recently on Victoria Avenue East, but has never before owned one.

Burkowski says that Cambrian Players hopes to become as much a part of the neighbourhood as the former owners of the heritage building have been.

The purchase proceeded smoothly with the help of community-minded organizations.

“We're really grateful to the Northern Credit Union for being willing to work with us to make this happen,” says board member Cheryl Silen, “as well as to Kris McGowen of Royal LePage.”

Cambrian Players is entirely volunteer-run and performs in a variety of venues. Its members have produced more than 200 shows ranging from musicals to Shakespeare to contemporary Canadian works. It also runs animprov group, meeting on Sunday nights. Cambrian awards a yearly scholarship to a high school graduate going on to study theatre.

Cambrian's upcoming production, William Shakespeare's Hamlet, opens February 28 at First-Wesley United Church. Tickets are available online now at www.eventbrite.ca.

Huge thank you to Aaron Langadin at Northern Credit Union for helping us every step of the way. Also to Kris McGowan for all the real estate help! And this could not have been done without the help of the Cambrian Board members that worked really hard to make this happen - Eva Burkowski, Cheryl Silen, and Donna Gardiner.
