Magnus Theatre in Education Announces Fall Programming

Thunder Bay, ON - It’s a revolution at Magnus Theatre! Magnus is excited to launch several new Theatre in Education programs for the 2017/2018 season.
Magnus is revamping the YOUNG PLAYWRIGHT’S CHALLENGE, after a hiatus of more than a decade. Playwrights between the ages of 13 and 19 are invited to submit scripts between September 8th, 2017 and February 28th, 2018. The scripts will undergo an adjudication process, and a winner and two runners up will be chosen to have their scripts workshopped on the mainstage. Cash prizes of $500, $300 and $200 will be awarded.
The annual COLLECTIVE CREATION PROJECT will return for its third consecutive year, following the success of last season’s INVISIBLES. Local high school students are invited to audition in October to participate in writing and performing in the production, which will be on the Mainstage in May 2018. This program is offered to local students at no cost.
In addition to these special initiatives, a full roster of dynamic THEATRE CLASSES will be offered for ages 6 and up. As always, Magnus’ classes and masterclasses are taught by professional actors, directors and educators. Three new adult classes will be offered this fall – THEATRE SKILLS FOR BUSINESS (with instructor Amy Sellors, who will feature in September’s WE WILL ROCK YOU), SCENE STUDY (with Magnus favourite Lila Cano), and PLAYWRITING WORKSHOP (with renowned dramatist Eleanor Albanese). A new class for teenagers, THE ACTOR’S TOOLBOX, and a PA DAY PROGRAM round out the class offerings. Both programs will be taught by Theatre in Education Animateur Danielle Chandler.

- Magnus Minis (Ages 6 - 8): 10:00 a.m. – 11:15 a.m. Saturdays, $110.00
- Magnus Youth (Ages 9 – 12): 11:30 a.m. – 12:45 p.m. Saturdays, $110.00
- The Actor’s Toolbox (Ages 13 - 18): 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 a.m. Wednesdays, $189.00
- Scene Study (Ages 16+): 7:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. Mondays, $199.00
- Theatre Skills for Business (Ages 18+): 7:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. Tuesdays, $199.00
- Playwriting Workshop (Ages 16+): 7:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. Wednesdays, $199.00
- PA Day Program (Ages 6 – 12): Fridays, $50/day
