THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO  -  June 8, 2018  (LSN)   The Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra has unveiled their much-awaited 58th season, which is set to be their most transformative and inclusive yet.

TBSO’s new 2018-2019 season phases out the decades-old Masterworks–Pops format, and introduces an innovative approach to concert selection and purchasing options. This year there are only two overarching categories: Mainstage and Second Stage. All 10 Mainstage concerts happen at the Community Auditorium. The remaining 11 happen at smaller, Second Stage venues.

“We’ve torn down the walls between Masterworks and Pops,” says Paul Haas, Music Director of the TBSO, “Because there’s so much more to hear when you listen outside the box.”

The 2018-2019 season will  offer an attractive new full-season subscription package designed just for couples, and two new expanded select-your-own packages will be offered alongside the current fan-favourite package “Select 6.”

The Mainstage Series features incredible performances by an outstanding and diverse group of guest artists, including the Metis Fiddler Quartet, Jeans ‘n Classics (doing Zeppelin and the Beatles!), mezzo-soprano Miriam Khalil, Canadian legend Tom Jackson, and more.

Over on Second Stage, there will be three joyous and heartwarming Family concerts along with the classically infused House Series and the refreshing Northern Lights series. Blues-goddess and longtime TBSO collaborator Rita Chiarelli will open the Northern Lights series during a two-night appearance in November. Handel’s Messiah will also make a glorious return to St. Paul’s United Church during the holiday season.

The TBSO have also announced two new special events: Classics & Cocktails in November at the Chanterelle and A Pairing of Wine & Song in January at the Valhalla Inn.

Subscriptions for the 2018-2019 symphony season are on sale now at the Thunder Bay Community Auditorium. Subscribers  get guaranteed seating on a first-come basis, so audiences should act fast. Early Bird vouchers are available if a subscription is purchased before July 17.
