TBSO’s galloping gala goes “live”

THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO - March 22, 2019 (LSN) TBSO’s galloping gala goes “live” at Confederation College’s TEC Hub (Thunder Bay) For the third year running the JUNO award-nominated TBSO is going “live” with its end-of-season gala fundraiser. The host venue this year is the new TEC Hub in Confederation College’s Innovation Centre.
The two previous events were outstanding successes. Live @ The Abbey happened in a newly renovated church, featuring activities on two levels including a dance floor in front of the orchestra, a piano lounge downstairs, and a coffee hideaway in the Abbey’s Habit Café. The year before that was the smashingly successful Live @ the Shipyard in an industrial space expressly repurposed for the event.
This year takes a different twist, moving from former places of worship and heavy industry to a decidedly more modern and high-tech venue. It’s the TEC Hub, the new $19 million, 45,000 square foot technical training centrepiece at Confederation College. T-E-C stands for Technology, Education and Collaboration, and features innovation, manufacturing and aerospace technology, and sustainability training. “High-tech” is almost an understatement.
Live @ The TEC Hub wouldn’t be ‘live’ without live entertainment. This year Danny Johnson and 21 Gun Fun join Maestro Paul Haas and the full TBSO for an evening of music and dancing. This year some of the music will dial back to 1960 when the Symphony was first formed. Event chair, Mary Anne Cooper, says “I’m not exactly sure at this point what the band and orchestra will actually play, but they assure me it will be fabulous, and I can hardly wait to hear it.”
The event will also feature a spectacular Silent Auction with over $12,000 worth of donated items to bid on—including an Ocean Adventure cruise.
There will be food stations in several locations serving haute cuisine designed by Daytona’s Creative Catering especially for the event, along with a cash bar serving craft cocktails, wine and beer, as well as coffee all night long.
This year’s Live @ The TEC Hub is sponsored by RBC and major contributors Marostica Motors, Bistro One, Confederation College and The Chronicle Journal.
Cooper says it’s THE social event of the season, and one of TBSO’s most important fundraisers. Tickets are $125 per person, and available online at www.tbso.ca.
