THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO - May 1, 2019 (LSN) Motherhood. Exhausting. Overwhelming. Hilarious. From labour to bath times and bedtimes, through all of those moments until the the school bus arrives, the early years of motherhood are a true (and frustrating) labour of love. Bring your mom (or any mother you love) to Cambrian Players' final offering of the 2018-2019 season, The MOMologues, and share in the laughs and tears of this cherished time in a mother's life.
This hysterical, original comedy was written by Lisa Rafferty, Sheila Eppolito, and Stefanie Cloutier. Produced by special arrangement with Samuel French, Inc., director Nathalie Roy marvellously taps into the pain and joy of “the toughest job you’ll ever love.”
“I wanted to find a play written by women, about women, for women,” says Roy, who drew inspiration from her own mother and two sisters. “My appreciation for the sacrifices my mother and sisters have made is even richer now.”
The MOMologues stars Cambrian Improv's Mary Davis as Ellen, stage veteran Jennifer Jones as Charlotte, newcomer Leane Shuttleworth as Maria, and Shannon Vancook – who was last seen in Almost, Maine – as Stefanie. The four women tell their stories of motherhood to the audience in monologue fashion, and through scenes depicting situations every mother can relate to.
The MOMologues debuted in Boston in 2002 to sold out audiences and since then has been performed more than 1,000 times.
The MOMologues runs May 8-11 and 15-18 at Cambrian Players, 818 Spring Street (the former Polish Hall). The play begins at 7:30PM (doors open at 7:00PM). General admission $20 each Wednesday, $25 Thursday to Saturday. Students and seniors $20. Tickets are available online on Eventbrite, at Fireweed and Calico Coffeehouse, and at the door. And for The MOMologues only! A Mother's Day matinee, May 12 at 2:00PM. Tickets are $30 and include a tea service.
