SAULT STE. MARIE, ONTARIO -  February 15, 2019  (LSN)  –  The Sault Ste. Marie Chamber of Commerce (SSMCOC) is proud to announce that its Chief Executive Officer, Rory Ring, has been appointed Chair of the Board for the Chamber Executives of Ontario (CEO) and assumes a Board of Directors position with the Ontario Chamber of Commerce (OCC), where he will represent the professional network of Chamber of Commerce leaders.

These volunteer roles will help connect the professional network overseeing Chambers of Commerce and Boards of Trade across the province to the current issues, challenges and opportunities that are being advanced by Ontario’s largest business network.

Don Mitchell, President of the Sault Ste. Marie Chamber states that this opportunity is both well-deserved for Ring and a testament to the professionalism of our local Chamber of Commerce and the positive impression that it has within the provincial Chamber network.

“Rory has been a strong advocate for local business since his arrival in the Sault and has been involved with the Chamber network for more than 20 years. He has done an exceptional job keeping the issues affecting our local economy at the forefront of the Chamber network, both provincially and federally. Sault Ste. Marie may not be the largest city in Ontario, but we have a strong local Chamber with an engaged membership, and that is a result of positive leadership,” says Mitchell.

The Chamber Executives of Ontario (CEO) is the professional development association for the senior management staff, sales professionals and events / marketing professionals of Chambers of Commerce and Boards of Trade across the province. Through CEO, Chamber professionals learn new techniques, share best practices and learn new ways of tackling challenges unique to Chambers of Commerce / Boards of Trade management. Key areas include: human resource management, sales, membership benefits and relations, communications and media relations, volunteer recruitment and management, non-dues revenue and fundraising, policy development and government relations, event management and development.

Mitchell explains that our local Chamber strongly encourages its staff to be engaged in continued professional development and notes that membership in CEO is beneficial both for the individual Chamber professional and for the success of the Chamber or Board of Trade involved.

“Keeping abreast of new business trends and best practices in Chamber management not only benefits the local organization, but its membership as well. Our 700 members in Sault Ste. Marie know that their membership supports a team that is well-trained, efficient and knowledgeable about current issues and trends that are impacting not only their own organization, but our local businesses as well.”

Rocco Rossi, President and CEO of the Ontario Chamber of Commerce extended congratulations to Ring, saying: “I know that I am joined by the entire Chamber Network in congratulating Rory Ring as Board Chair for the Chamber Executives of Ontario. Rory is an exceptional leader and brings with him a wealth of experience and expertise. This milestone is a testament to Rory’s continued dedication and commitment to the Chamber Network and the Ontario business community.”

For more than a century, the Ontario Chamber of Commerce (OCC) has been the independent, non-partisan voice of Ontario business, defending business priorities at Queen’s Park on behalf of its network’s diverse 60,000 members. The OCC represents local Chambers of Commerce and Boards of Trade in over 135 communities across the province, steering public policy conversations provincially and within local communities. Additionally, the OCC offers a wide range of programs and services that enable Chamber-member businesses to grow at home and in export markets, providing exclusive support, networking opportunities, and access to innovative insight and analysis for members.

This work of the Ontario Chamber of Commerce is based on the belief that strong businesses are the foundation of a prosperous Ontario. As a strong, collective voice representative of its Chamber Network and members, the OCC continues to ensure that the issues and concerns of Ontario businesses are not only heard, but sufficiently addressed through a strategic and collaborative approach with the Ontario Government.
