Small Business Development Center at UW-Superior receives grants

SUPERIOR, Wis. – January 25, 2018 (LSN) The Small Business Development Center (SBDC) at the University of Wisconsin-Superior was recently awarded two grants totaling $13,000 from the Duluth Superior Area Community Foundation.
“We would like to thank the Duluth Superior Area Community Foundation for their support in these grants and look forward to our continued service to the community as we strengthen entrepreneurship and economic development in Northwest Wisconsin,” said Andy Donahue, Director of the SBDC. “Receiving these grants will allow the SBDC to offer unique business education and professional development programming that will be beneficial to the community. As the needs of our workforce and communities change, new offerings will be available to address their wants.”
The Center received a $10,000 grant from the Business Leaders Fund, which will be utilized to create a Center for Entrepreneurship & Economic Development. This area will promote entrepreneurship through consulting, educational offerings, economic research and regional development to help business leaders start, manage and grow their businesses.
An additional $3,000 was awarded through the Young Leaders Fund to provide a Young Professional Development Series as part of the Center for Entrepreneurship & Economic Development. This series will provide educational offerings and professional development opportunities specifically for young professionals designed to prepare them for the next level of growth within their careers.
“Creating educational programming that meets the needs of our workforce, young professionals and business leaders will continue the surge of economic development and entrepreneurship in Northwest Wisconsin,” said Donahue. “The newly created Center for Entrepreneurship & Economic development will strengthen these areas and allow a collaborative effort between the SBDC, UW-Superior, its students and the business community.”
As an educationally based organization, the SBDC promotes entrepreneurship, innovation and business learning through ties with the state’s economic development community.
