#LSN_Econ   Panning for Gold

THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO  -  May 19, 2018  (LSN)  On June 23, 2018 Mining Day will be celebrating its 6th Anniversary. It is organized by a group of volunteers from various mining and associated service companies in NW Ontario.

The Festival is free to the public to enjoy with their families. Games and activities with a mining related theme are presented by the many exhibitors. The kids get to pan for real gold, use a metal detector, make jewelry from rocks and gems, ask geologists tough questions, enter draws for prizes and learn about the rocks beneath their feet.

Outdoor displays include mine equipment, drills, mineral collections, drone exhibit and Smokey the Bear mascot. A BBQ in support of a local Charity will be operated by Women in Mining.

Hey kids, looking for some fun!! Come on down to the 6th Annual Mining Day Festival at Marina Park in Thunder Bay on June 23. There will be lots of activities and games to play and free stuff to take home. Try your hand at panning for gold just like the prospectors did in the gold rush days; search for treasure using a metal detector; drive a large mine truck in a simulator; check out real mine equipment; and watch a drone in action.

Do you have a favourite rock you want identified for you by a geologist? Bring it with you and talk to one of the many geologists available to tell you all about it and if it has any gold in it.

Try your skills at making arrow heads from slate, check out the valuable gem stones, pick a rock to take home from a large selection and many more activities to explore. Bring your friends and enjoy a day prospecting for fun.

There will be free draws for prizes, give-aways of rocks and gems and meet the author of a special new book describing a surprise birthday for a little girl touring an underground mine. (limited number of copies to be given away)

A BBQ in support of a local Charity will be operated by Women in Mining.
