COOK COUNTY, MINNESOTA - May 8, 2018 (LSN) Winter Storm Warnings and Winter Weather Advisories are in effect from 7 PM this evening until 10 AM tomorrow. A spring storm continues to spread rain into the region today and transitions into a rain/snow mix or all snow beginning early this evening. Generally 4 to 8 inches of snowfall in the warning area with locally higher amounts possible near Lake Superior shoreline and higher terrain. Freezing rain is also possible over northwest Wisconsin. Heavy, wet snow could cause power outages, slippery road conditions, and reduced visibilities.
Cook County is included in the latest Winter Storm warning with a potential for snow and gusting winds, tonight into Thursday. The Highway Department will respond to road conditions as efficiently and effectively as possible; however, some of the winter fleet has already been transitioned to spring operations. Four graders and five plows remain operational for winter maintenance, but will take a longer than with the full fleet. The County also has limited ability to plow gravel roads due to road restrictions.
Cook County thanks residents for their patience. Drivers are encouraged to use extra caution if traveling during the winter storm. Highway condition updates are available at 511mn.org
