THUNDER BAY, Ontario  —  December 26, 2018  (LSN) In response to a number of recent tragic and traumatic events in Thunder Bay, Thunder Bay Public Library reaffirms its commitment to Anti-racism and Decolonization. We stand in solidarity with the Indigenous people of Thunder Bay in their continuing struggle for social justice and human rights.

In September 2017, the Thunder Bay Public Library Board approved a Relationship Building and Reconciliation Action Plan. The report and action plan are living documents and testament to the dedication of the Library’s Indigenous Liaison, Robyn Medicine, along with the members of the Indigenous Advisory Council and Library staff.

THUNDER BAY, Ontario  —  December 17, 2018  (LSN)  Thunder Bay Police Association (TBPA) response to the reports of OIPRD, Mr Gerry McNeilly and Senator Murray Sinclair.

After careful review, the membership of TBPA is taking the above-said reports very seriously and understands the expressed concerns of the Indigenous community. That said, we feel that the OIPRD report does not highlight the hard work of the TBPA members that is done on a daily basis within the community of Thunder Bay, nor does it mention the high Solve Rate for violent crime in the city. THUNDER BAY, Ontario  —  December 12, 2018  (LSN)   Chief Robin McGinnis, Rainy River First Nations – “Rainy River First Nations is committed to supporting each and every family in our communities. What the DeBungee family has been put through by the TBPS is unforgiveable. The findings by the Director that there is overwhelming evidence of racism at the Thunder Bay Police Service vindicates this long battle. We look forward to hearing the leadership of the service provide the acknowledgments of the existence of racism that the Director has recommended. We would like to go forward in a good way, but that can only be done if the leadership of the Thunder Bay Police Service, both the Chief and the Board, admit the existence of racism against our people and a commitment to fix it.”
