THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO - September 27 , 2017 (LSN) The Friends of the
Thunder Bay Public Library celebrated the Grand Opening of the new Hilltop
Book Nook with a ribbon cutting Tuesday at the Waverley Resource
Library.
The Hilltop Book Nook is located on the lower level of the Waverley Resource
Library, at 285 Red River Road. The Book Nook features shelves of used
material, including adult, teen and children’s books and CDs which have been
withdrawn from the library collection.
The shelves are stocked on a weekly basis by volunteers from the Friends of
the Thunder Bay Public Library. Items are offered for sale for only 50 cents
each. Payments are accepted on an honour system at the main desk upstairs.
The Hilltop Book Nook is open the same hours as the Waverley Resource
Library - 10 am to 9 pm Monday through Thursday and 10 am to 5 pm Friday
and Saturday.
The north side Hilltop Book Nook complements the south side location, which
is located inside the Victoriaville Centre. The Southside Book Nook offers
used books and other items for sale for various prices, depending on the age
and condition of the donated item.
Fran Duke, President of the Friends of the Library, spoke at the grand opening
and said, “The Friends are very excited about the opening of our second used
book store location. This year, the Friends of the Library are celebrating thirty
years of service to our community. We’re always looking for new volunteers,
so, please consider joining our group and help us continue to operate our
bookstores in support of the Library.”
The Friends also acknowledged the tremendous support of the Library for
allocating space at the Waverley Library for the Hilltop Book Nook. In turn, the
Library acknowledged the amazing volunteer efforts of the Friends over the
last thirty years and their fundraising efforts, which has resulted in donations of
over $800,000 to the Library.
