COOK COUNTRY, GRAND MARAIS, MINNESOTA - April 25, 2018  (LSN)

The Cook County Emergency Services Conference will be taking place on Friday, April 27 and Saturday, April 28. As part of the conference, many of Cook County’s emergency responders, including the Fire Departments, Search & Rescue and Law Enforcement, will be participating in field exercises in the City of Grand Marias. On Saturday, you may see a number of people down by the harbor near the East Bay at the Grand Marais Rec Park. These responders will be completing Cold Water Rescue Training through a variety of techniques and may be in the water with immersion suits.  Rotations of this exercise will take place at 10 am, 1 pm and 3 pm.

Our County’s nine fire departments will also be completing a controlled, live-burn training at the site of the former Tomteboda Motel on Highway 61. Throughout the day on Saturday, you may see several fire trucks, firefighters and the Sheriff’s Office Mobile Command & Rehab trailer at the site, along with smoke and or flames. This is just a training exercise.

If you’re interested in becoming a member of any of the County’s emergency services or for more information, contact Valerie Marasco at the Office of Emergency Management at 387-3059.
