THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO - July 26, 2018 (LSN) St. Andrew's Dew Drop Inn soup kitchen was established in 1981 to address the needs of the hungry in the community of Thunder Bay. The Dew Drop Inn is open daily and serves a nutritious mid-day meal between 2:00 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. We provide a safe, welcoming environment where hungry men, women, and children can come to eat with no questions asked and where they are treated with dignity and respect.
There are a lot of different ways that people show they care and here at the Dew Drop Inn we do it through the meals we prepare. Since we rely heavily on donations of food and funding, this can be rather challenging at times and a test of our creativity, but we are committed to producing the best meal possible and strive to include salad and fresh vegetables, when available.
The most precious gift is the gift of time and we are certainly privileged to have an army of awesome volunteers who assist us in all aspects of our daily operation. The bottom line is, without their enthusiastic support, we simply could not do what we do each day.

This year we have faced new challenges with a dramatic increase in the number of people we are serving. May has traditionally been a busy month for us, but this year it was noticeably busier. This trend carried on into June and also into July. On July 16th we served 305 people; a number previously associated with our Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday dinners.
Our current set up in the dining hall just wasn’t working for the large increase in numbers being served. After some brainstorming on the part of our team, we completely rearranged the dining area to accommodate the crowds more effectively. It has been a work in progress, but we can proudly say that our changes have resulted in a more efficient process for feeding the increased number of people coming to eat each day.
Times are tough out there. We are seeing more seniors, teenagers, and families having a meal with us. Often we are asked if everyone who joins us needs to be here, but for us it is simple; they are here because they feel they need to be and that is good enough for us.
There are many ways you can help. Donations of food can be dropped off daily from 10:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Our weekly kitchen list is published in the Grocery Basket found in Wednesday’s Chronicle-Journal or by checking out our Facebook page @ Dew Drop Inn Thunder Bay. Financial donations can be made by calling our office at 807 345-5202 or online at our website dewdropinnthunderbay.ca.
Thunder Bay has a huge heart and we would like to thank all of our community supporters and volunteers for working with us and allowing us to do what we do best. It is so sincerely appreciated.
