Third-annual Camp Bong Lake Superior News

SUPERIOR, WISCONSIN – March 5, 2018  (LSN)  The University of Wisconsin-Superior Center for Continuing Education and the Richard I. Bong Veterans Historical Center are teaming for the third-annual Camp Bong.

Camp Bong is a sleepover experience at the Bong Veterans Historical Center providing youth and adults the chance to meet with veterans, engage in a variety of learning experiences and visit areas of the Center normally off limits to the public.

Due to the popularity of the event, the camp will take place with two separate events – Friday, March 23, for youth in grades 1 to 3, and Friday, April 13, for grades 4 to 6.

For both dates the event starts with pizza and the opportunity to talk with local veterans about their experiences. Campers then will form two platoons engaging in a footlocker presentation and conducting a scavenger hunt for hidden markers throughout the Center.

After a brief break, the campers will have their photo taken inside the cockpit of the P-38 Lighting followed by aeronautics training where campers will design, build and test their own parachute.

In addition, if the weather permits, campers will get an up-close tour of the M-60 tank located outside the Center.

The following morning, campers will be treated to a breakfast and a behind-the-scenes tour of the collection storage area of the Center.

All campers will be given the collectible Camp Bong T-shirt and their own customizable dog tag.

Cost is $35 for the first camper and $25 for every camper after there is no cost for the adult chaperone (required). To register, call (715) 394-8032 or visit http://www.cvent.com/d/vtqfjk.
