SAULT STE MARIE, ONTARIO - March 8, 2019 (LSN) – The Sault Ste. Marie Chamber of Commerce hosted its annual Women In Business Breakfast on Friday, March 8th (International Women’s Day) at Algoma’s Water Tower Inn.
270 local business professionals took part in the event which included a panel discussion led by Jasmyn Rowley. Panelists included: Francine Floreani, Dealer Principal of Great Lakes Honda; Kristina Koprash, owner of Krush Clothing Boutique; Lisa Bell-Murray, Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation; Maxx Anderson, entrepreneur and owner of Maxx PR.
The popular annual event also included the presentation of this year’s ATHENA® Leadership Award, sponsored locally by Sault College. This year’s recipient was Karen Bird.
Bird, an Investment Advisor with RBC Dominion Securities, was recognized for her personal and professional leadership and for commitment to community, both Sault Ste. Marie and Batchewana First Nation.
During her introduction of Bird, Janice Beatty, VP, Corporate and Student Services of Sault College, noted that Karen is looked at as role model for women in our community, adding that “she is a highly motived person with a deep sense of rallying community spirit, building on success and achievement. She is an individual whose volunteer contribution outside of work and family is a testament to improving the quality of life for Sault Ste. Marie and for her indigenous community.”
The ATHENA® Leadership Award is unique in both scope - local, national and international - and the ATHENA mission upon which it is based. The Award is presented to a woman - or man - who is honored for professional excellence, community service and for actively assisting women in their attainment of professional excellence and leadership skills.
