THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO  - May 6, 2019 (LSN)  –  – Representatives of the Thunder Bay Chamber of Commerce have just returned from a successful meeting of the Ontario Chamber of Commerce (OCC) in Muskoka Lakes.  The two-day conference included presentations by the Premier and the Leaders of the three Opposition Parties as well as discussion and debate on a broad range of provincial issues that are impacting businesses including infrastructure, competitiveness, and the growing skills shortage.

Thunder Bay delegates presented two policy recommendations for Ontario government action that would amend Ontario’s immigration policies to help small and rural communities expand the workforce and support the growth of forestry through recognition of Crown Forest Sustainability Act equivalency within the Endangered Species Act.  Both policy recommendations were adopted by the OCC membership.

The Thunder Bay Chamber also received the Outstanding Advocacy Campaign Award in recognition of the success of its “Say Yes” municipal election platform this past Fall.  The campaign was endorsed by 55 of 61 candidates, including all of the 13 elected members of Council.

The text of the policy resolutions is available at www.tbchamber.ca
