TRAVERSE CITY, MICHIGAN, —  June 28, 2018  (LSN)  Coast Guard Air Station Traverse City is scheduled to host an ‘Open Ramp’ event, Friday, June 29, 2018, from 5:30 p.m., to 8 p.m., to kick off the 2018 National Cherry Festival Airshow.

Admission is free and open to the public.

The Air Station is opening its gates and allowing up-close access to the National Cherry Festival Airshow performers, including the U.S. Navy Blue Angels, two Air National Guard A10’s, the Royal Canadian Air Force HC-130 Hercules, a vintage B17 Bomber, L39 Albatross training jet, and Air Station Traverse City’s own MH-60T Jayhawk helicopters. Numerous other organizations will be on site including the Michigan State Police, Michigan Department of Natural Resources, Northwestern Michigan College aircraft and drones, North Flight, and a U.S. Customs and Border Patrol aircraft.

Rain or shine, take advantage of this unique opportunity to get a close-up look at the aircraft and meet the pilots and crews that fly and maintain them – this will be your only chance!  Of special note this year, the Navy Blue Angels pilots and crew will be present during the event to meet with attendees.

All persons, vehicles and bags will be subject to search. No weapons or animals will be allowed on base, with the exception of service animals. In an effort to reduce security wait times, it is recommended that only small purses and diaper bags be brought onto the base.

Parking will be provided near the Coast Guard Air Station located at 1175 Airport Access Road in Traverse City. Parking opens at 5 p.m.  Carpooling is highly encouraged as space available is limited. No parking will be allowed on Airport Access Road or the grassy areas on either side.

New this year, off-site parking is available at the Munson Community Health Center with free transportation to the event via BATA bus.

This event is open to general public and is handicap accessible. TheCoast Guard Exchange, located near the entrance, will also be open. The public will have the opportunity to purchase military memorabilia and clothing from 9 a.m., to 8 p.m.
