TERRACE BAY , ONTARIO - June 27, 2018 (LSN) I don’t know about you, but I am passionate about anything outdoors, but especially proud of my backyard on the North Shore of Lake Superior. Allow me to introduce myself, My name is Kendall, I am the proud new owner of Experience North, in Terrace Bay, ON. Experience North combines everything local and outdoors all into one convenient hub. I would love to share this with you!
When you pull into the parking lot you will notice the canoes, kayaks and paddleboards sitting on the rack outside with a rent me sign. There are also Fat bikes, Camping Equipment, Fishing Kits and Day Packs for rent inside. Even if you are just passing through unprepared, you now have the opportunity to get out there. Even in the winter! An ice fishing hut package, snowshoes and fat bikes available. And more to come…
Glance around at the Local Art, Souvenirs and Amethyst, Stock up to head out with Snacks and regular convenience items available, and of course the necessary outdoor supplies whether you are hiking/camping/fishing or hunting. You never now what you will find! More items added regularly. Consignment Sales accepted for local artists and crafters. And any suggestions are appreciated.
On the other side, grab a seat, a drink and a bite. Drink your coffee from your choice of our random assortment of outdoor themed mugs, Or just hang out and talk with other travellers, locals or your gracious host about local information, fishing tales, and peruse the many maps posted on the walls, to assist in planning your adventure. Or come back and chill and tell us about the epic time you just had, don’t forget to share a photo for our photo album - which is displayed for others to see what kind of excitement goes on around here 😊 .
The Bulletin Board displays local events, as well as those hosted by Experience North and Partners. You can expect guided hikes, seminars courses and clinics, such as rock/ice climbing, art and craft nights etc… just to name a few. Also a great spot for your own club get togethers.
Terrace Bay and surrounding area has plenty to offer anyone looking for adventure – from easily accessible to the more extreme. Prominently marked by the lighthouse on the highway. Terrace Bay beach offers wide sandy shoreline, boat launch and even a kayak dock, and is a great access to Lake Superior. Charters are available out to the Mysterious Meteor site of the Slate Islands to spot the caribou and lighthouse, or for fishing the big lake. The Aguasabon River spills into the bay from one of the beautiful waterfalls. The Casques Isles trail runs from here to Rossport, and is a backpackers dream, but also offers several shorter hikes for various skill/fitness levels. The nearby Steel River is an exceptional canoe route. And there are countless inland lakes and river presenting excellent fishing opportunities. Also several nearby provincial parks if your camping along the way. The shores have recently become popular for surfers, several Shipwrecks dot the waters for experienced divers, and newly found climbing routes are being discovered. For the Winter lovers, there are several (no longer “maintained”) snow machine trails, cross-country ski trails, and ski hill.
