THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO - July 31,  2019   (LSN) Thunder Bay Police Service Cyber Crime Unit officers have made an arrested connected to an ongoing investigation linked to the making available and possession of child pornography.

Justin Myles ANSELMO, 27, of Thunder Bay, is charged with Making Available Child Pornography, Possession of Child Pornography and Accessing Child Pornography.

THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO - July 11,  2019   (LSN) The Thunder Bay Police Service is requesting the public’s assistance in locating a suspect connected to two recent arson investigations.

Officers were dispatched to a house fire in the 500 block of Hartland Street just before 6 a.m. on Saturday, June 29. Thunder Bay Fire Rescue firefighters were on scene and working to extinguish the blaze when police arrived.

THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO - June 13,  2019   (LSN) Investigators with the Project Disruption joint task force arrested 10 and seized cash and drugs following the search of several apartment units in a building in the 200 block of Pearl Street just before 6 p.m. Wednesday, June 12.

Through the course of an investigation, police learned the units were being used by suspected Toronto-area gang members for drug trafficking and being aided by local residents.

The body of the new born baby was found in a parking area dumpster and pronounced dead at the scene

THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO - May 29,  2019   (LSN) Thunder Bay Police Service officers were dispatched to a laneway in the 100 block of Heron Street following multiple reports of a fight involving two males, one of whom who was believed to be in possession of a loaded handgun, just before 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday May 28.

The males had entered a black pick-up truck and fled the area before officers arrived, but the suspect were spotted by officers minutes later in the Tim Hortons drive-thru on 321 May Street North. At this point officers contained the area and conducted a high risk arrest.

THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO - May 17,  2019   (LSN) Members of the joint task force, Project Disruption, executed a search warrant at a residence in the 200 block of Cumming Street last night.  As a result, 2 Scarborough men are facing multiple charges.

TBPS Emergency Task Unit officers entered the residence just before 9:30 p.m.  Two males fled through a window as officers entered the apartment.  Both were pursued and arrested.   A subsequent search of the residence led to the seizure of crack cocaine and a substance suspected of being fentanyl along with cash and a replica firearm.

THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO - May 10,  2019   (LSN) Investigators with the Project Disruption joint task force executed two search warrants that resulted in drug seizures and arrests on Wednesday, May 8.

Both warrants were products of an ongoing investigation into drug and gang activity in the city.

The first warrant focused on an address in the 300 block of South Syndicate Avenue. Officers entered the residence at about 5 p.m. on Wednesday and arrested nine individuals. Three were released without conditions, while the remaining six were taken into custody.

The results of Project Disruption’s first six months were shared with the public at a press conference at the Thunder Bay Police Service headquarters Thursday morning.  Data presented covers investigations that took place between Oct. 1, 2018 and April 5, 2019.

THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO - April 18,  2019   (LSN) Two people arrested as the result of an ongoing investigation into threats targeting Hammarskjold High School were formally charged Thursday, April 18.

Investigators with the Thunder Bay Police Service learned the first accused, an 18-year-old Shuniah woman, submitted Crime Stoppers tips about pending threats to the high school on April 8, 9, 10, and 16.

The threats ranged from planned shootings, to possible explosives. The information provided required police to quickly respond to the school to ensure public safety.
Each response included extensive searches of the building.

Further investigation revealed the discovery of over 1/2 pound of Fentanyl. One of the largest seizures in Northern Ontario.

GRAND PORTAGE, MINNESOTA  - March 22, 2019   (LSN - U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Grand Portage Port of Entry seized 20.9 grams of cocaine on March 16.

The seizure occurred when a CBP officer referred a brown Chevrolet Equinox driven by a 43-year-old female Canadian citizen from Sioux Lookout, Ontario. During an inspection of the vehicle, officers discovered 20 small baggies of a white powdery substance that later tested positive for cocaine.

The search was part of an ongoing Fentanyl and cocaine trafficking investigation by the joint task force, which includes members from the Thunder Bay Police Service, OPP, Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service and Anishinabek Police Service.

THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO - March 15,  2019   (LSN) The Thunder Bay Police Service is requesting the public’s assistance in identifying a suspect connected to a recent convenience store robbery.

Police learned a female suspect entered the store brandishing a knife and syringe. The suspect approached the store clerk at the counter and demanded money.

Thunder Bay Police Service officers were dispatched to the Circle K convenience store at 346 North May Street just before 9 p.m. on March 12 for  a reported robbery that had just occurred at that location.

The Thunder Bay Police Service has arrested and charged a second suspect in connection with the homicide investigation of Lee CHIODO.

Marshall HARDY-FOX, 27, of Thunder Bay, turned himself in to police in evening hours of Sunday, March 3. He appeared in court this morning and was formally charged with First-Degree Murder and Kidnapping. He has been remanded into custody with a future appearance date.

In the evening hours of Saturday, March 2, police arrested David HUI, 47, of Thunder Bay.
HUI is charged with Kidnapping and First Degree Murder. He appeared in court this morning and was remanded into custody with a future court date.

The break-ins took place between Jan. 6 and Feb. 11, 2019. Police looked into 12 separate incidents and were able to identify three suspects. Two suspects have been arrested and charged while a third remains at large.

NIPIGON, ONTARIO - February  18, 2019   (LSN)  - On February 17, 2019 at approximately 9:00 p.m. officers from the Schreiber Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop for a Highway Traffic Act offence on Highway 17, Lahontan Township (Rossport area).

As a result of the traffic stop, officers seized 21 cases, containing approximately 200,000 unmarked cigarettes and cigars were seized.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas  - February 5, 2019   (LSN -Despite a historic partial government shutdown stretching 35 days, agents from the National Air Security Operations Center remained laser focused on doing what they do best—catching cocaine smugglers.

“Our folks are the best at what they do, 24/7, 365 days a year. They will always be fully dedicated to our mission, regardless of circumstances,” said Director of Air and Marine Operations Bob Blanchard.

 

Aircrews from the National Air Security Operations Center in Corpus Christi flew 271 hours on 49 missions and stopped almost 11,000 pounds of cocaine from reaching the United States during the shutdown. The narcotics had a wholesale value of $140,675,962

THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO   December 17, 2018  (LSN)  Thunder Bay Police Service officers responded to a call for service involving weapons at a residence in the 300 block of Brodie Street just before 3 a.m. on Feb. 3, 2019.

Reports indicated two individuals entered the residence possibly armed with firearms.

The TBPS Emergency Task Unit was deployed to contain the area and keep the public safe during the active call.

TUCSON, ARIZONA - January 31, 2019   (LSN - U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Nogales Commercial Facility seized nearly $4.6 million in fentanyl and methamphetamine totaling close to 650 pounds on Saturday from a Mexican national when he attempted to enter the United States through the Port of Nogales. The seizure is the largest seizure of fentanyl in CBP history. The methamphetamine seizure represents the third largest at an Arizona port.
