Highway 11-17 Closed fatality

Highway 11 - 17 Closed Shabaqua to Sistonens Corners   Lake Superior News

THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO   -  April 9, 2018  (LSN) On Monday, April 9, 2018 at approximately 12:23pm, officers from the Thunder Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Superior North Emergency Medical Service (EMS) and Kaministiquia Volunteer Fire Department  responded to a report of a two vehicle collision on Highway 11/17, approximately two kilometres east of Finnmark Road. Closed between Shabaqua and Sistonens Corners 

An east bound pickup truck collided with a west bound tractor trailer unit. 

The driver of the pickup truck was pronounced dead at the scene. The identification of the driver is being withheld pending next of kin notification. The driver and passenger of the transport truck were transported to hospital by ambulance with non-life threatening injuries.

Highway Safety Division officers (HSD), OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigators (TTCI) and officers from the Forensic Identification Unit (FIU) attended the scene to assist with the investigation.

Highway 11/17 remains closed at this time. The investigation is continuing.
