THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO  March 2, 2017  (LSN) A very extensive police investigation resulted in the arrest of 31 year old Charles Norman Casmey in relationship to a homicide of Joseph Pruys that occurred on February 26, 2018 on 500 block of McLaughlin

Members of various units with the TBPS worked in conjunction with resources supplied by the Ontario Provincial Police to contain and evacuate the 500 block of McTavish Street last night. Eventually Charles Casmey was taken into custody when he surrendered to police at approximately 9:25 p.m.

Charles Casmey will appear in court this morning charged with:

• · Second Degree Murder
• · Assault Causing Bodily Harm
• · Fail to Comply with Recognizance

ACCUSED MURDERER CHARLES NORMAN CASMEY MAKES VIDEO APPEARANCE IN BAIL COURTROOM 104 THIS MORNING. 

CASMEY WAS ARRESTED LAST EVENING BY THUNDER BAY POLICE AND OPP AFTER A STANDOFF IN THE EAST END. 
Shortly after 10 am this morning, Charles Casmey appeared handcuffed by video from Thunder Bay Police Station on Balmoral. 

Justice of the Peace John Guthrie is presiding and Crown Attorney Gord Fillmore is here. Casmey tells the court his lawyer is David Bruzzese. His lawyer is paged but is not present. 
Casmey is wearing a grayish blue zip up hoodie and his head is tilted to the right through most of the proceeding.
 
The court reads out his 2nd degree murder charge. Casmey is accused of murdering Joseph Pruys. 
Another charge of assault causing bodily harm against a young female is also read out. Casmey is also charged with breaching his bail conditions once again. 
Casmey has another set of older charges (see attached list) that he is scheduled to appear in court for on March 13,2018

Justice of the Peace Guthrie issues a non-communication order against Casmey for 5 people. 
A second-degree murder charge comes with an automatic detention order, however, turning today’s court appearance into a five-minute formality. Charles Casmey will likely appear later this month in Superior Court to request bail. 

Charles Casmey is being transported from Balmoral Police Station to the Thunder Bay Jail this morning. His next court appearance will by video on Monday March 5,2018 at 12:45pm from the Thunder Bay Jail.

CASMEY WAS RELEASED ON BAIL TO HIS MOTHER AND SUPPOSED TO BE ON 24/7 HOUSE ARREST FOR AN ALLEGED INCIDENT ON FEBRUARY 5,2018

Thunder Bay Police Service is currently investigating a homicide that occurred early this morning at a residence in the 500 block of McLaughlin Street.

A 911 call from a female was received at 5:40 a.m. requesting police and ambulance to attend the residence. When officers arrived they located a 63 year old male who was deceased and a 25 year old female who was injured. Sources indicate the deceased is his stepfather and the female is his girlfriend. 
The female was taken to the hospital by ambulance, treated and released. The victims and the suspect in this incident are known to each other.

Charles Norman Casmey, 31 year old of Thunder Bay is arrestable for Second-Degree Murder and Assault Causing Bodily Harm. He is considered armed and dangerous. The police are advising the public to make no attempt to interact with him and to call 911 if he is observed in public. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to contact the police.

• 2001-possession stolen property and criminal trespass
• 2002-aggravated assault
• 2004-flight from police, drugs, weapons
• 2008-fail to comply with recognizance, dangerous driving, assault 
• 2009-Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm. 

FEBRUARY 5,2018 INCIDENT out on Bail
Two males were arrested in response to a disturbance call on the evening of February 5, 2018 on Tuscany Drive.
Patrol officers arrived at the residence just after 8:30 p.m. and located five males involved in an altercation in the garage. While police were attempting to determine what was going on, three males got into a vehicle, backed into a police cruiser and fled the scene. An ambulance was called to attend to the 24 year old and 25 year old males victims who required minor medical attention.

It was reported that the three suspects approached the victims outside the residence and ordered them into the garage, items were taken from them and an assault began. The involved parties are known to each other. Investigators were able to identify the driver of the vehicle that fled and put him out for location.

On February 6, 201 8 at 11:50 a.m. the driver was located by patrol officers in the Ogden Street area. An attempt to stop the vehicle was unsuccessful. Officers located the vehicle a short time later in the area of Southern Avenue and May Street. The driver exited the vehicle and was taken in to custody in the Wiley Street area after a short foot pursuit. 
Charles Norman Casmey, 31 years old has been charged with Robbery x 2, Forcible Confinement x2, Flight from Police, Dangerous Driving, Drive Disqualified and Failure to Stop at the Scene of an Accident. 

Just before 7:30 p.m. on February 6, 2018, Carson Eade, 29 years old, turned himself in at the Balmoral Police Station for the Tuscany Street incident. He was taken into custody and charged with Robbery x2 and Forcible Confinement x2.
