THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO - May 23,  2019   (LSN) A 38-year-old Thunder Bay man is facing a number of charges following an investigation by the TBPS Criminal Investigations Branch regarding a break and enter to a north side residence.

A 93-year-old woman was home at the time when a male gained forced entry to her home just before 9:30 p.m. on May 5, 2019.  The accused took a number of the victim’s personal items before fleeing the scene.  The victim was able to call 911 and Uniform Officers responded.  The victim was not injured.

A subsequent investigation included a review of various neighbourhood surveillance cameras and extensive follow up which resulted in an arrest warrant being issued for the accused.  The man was arrested by TBPS Uniform Patrol just after 8:30 a.m. this morning without incident.

38-year-old Richard Nicholas Surdyka has been charged with Break and Enter, Theft Under $5,000 and Mischief Under $5,000.  Surdyka is also facing an additional charge of Possession of Stolen Property Under $5,000 in connection with an unrelated incident which involved the selling of stolen property to a local pawn shop.

He has been remanded into custody for a future court date.
