 Floodway Death Update

Thunder Bay Police and the Regional Coroners office are investigating the death of a male located in the Neebing/ MacIntyre Floodway.

The Thunder Bay Police are asking for the publics assistance: Should anyone have observed an Indigenous male in the area of Fort William Road and Isabel on the 21 September 2017 at 2030 hours they are asked to contact Thunder Bay Police at 807 684 1200 or at Crime Stoppers 807 623 8477.

This male was observed to be wearing a beige/brown long sleeve shirt, black pants and black shoes. He is slim with short black hair.He may have been in the company of other(s) in the area.

Police have been on scene since 1355 Hours this date. During this time the Forensic Identification unit and the Criminal Investigations Branch have been assisting the Regional Coroners Office. A Post Mortem is pending In Toronto.

Police Uniform Patrol will remain on scene. The Emergency Task Unit and the Containment Team were on scene assisted by Thunder Bay Fire in a search the water and shoreline.

The investigation remains ongoing. The deceased has been identified , however Police are withholding the name for the sake of the family and the investigation at this time.

The media will be updated once the police are able to share more information.

Update Floodway Death Investigation

A post mortem will be conducted today in Toronto on the body of the on the 21 year old male that was located in the Neebing / McIntyre Floodway over the weekend.

A 911 call was received at approximately 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 23, 2017 when his body was located by a kayaker in the river.

Emergency services arrived shortly afterwards and the scene was secured pending the investigation. Police remain on scene and continue to work with the Regional Coroner's Office awaiting the results of the post mortem.

Police are still looking to speak to any citizens who may have seen the deceased male in the Intercity area on Thursday, September 21, 2017 at approximately 8:30 p.m.

This male is described as being a slim Indigenous male with short black hair.

He was wearing a beige/brown long sleeve shirt, black pants and black shoes. He may have been in the company of other(s) in the area at this time.

The post mortem has been completed in Toronto on the body of the 21 year old male was found in the Neebing /McIntyre Floodway. The results are pending further testing by the Regional Coroner's Office.

The family is requesting privacy at this time. They have requested the name of the deceased not be released.

Police have released the scene where his body was recovered on the south shore of the floodway just east of Fort William Road.

The Criminal Investigation Branch are continuing to interview persons, the investigation is ongoing.

The male found deceased in the Neebing /McIntyre Floodway on September 23, 2017 has been identified as 21 year old Dylan Joe Francis Moonias of Thunder Bay.

Police are looking to speak to anyone who may have seen Dylan between the evening of Thursday, September 21 and the morning of Saturday, September 23, 2017.

This investigation is ongoing.

The victim in the September 10, 2017 homicide at a Syndicate Avenue North residence has been identified as 25 year old Bert Isaac WOOD of Thunder Bay.
The identification process followed a post mortem examination in Toronto on Wednesday.
The results of that examination will not be released to the public as this matter is now before the courts.

The name of the accused in the Syndicate Avenue North homicide and assaults has been identified as 35 year old Nazareth Alexander NELSON of Thunder Bay. He has been remanded into custody with a court date of October 13, 2017.

The Criminal Investigations Branch of the TBPS has made an arrest in connection with a homicide and two assaults which occurred at a residence in the 200 block of Syndicate Avenue North.  Police were called to this location just before 11:30 a.m. on September 10, 2017.  A deceased male was discovered along with a 25 year old male and a 23 year old female who were victims of assaults.  All involved parties were known to each other. 

A post mortem examination of the deceased adult male is expected to occur in Toronto this Wednesday.  Results of that examination will determine a positive identification of the victim.

A 35 year old Thunder Bay man wanted in connection with the homicide and 2 assaults was arrested at a south side residence last night. The Criminal Investigations Branch worked with members of the Intelligence Unit and Uniform Patrol to locate and arrested the accused just before 8:45 p.m.

He has been charged with 2nd Degree Murder, Aggravated Assault and Attempted Murder.  The name of the accused will be released after he makes his first appearance today.

Police arrived on scene and located a deceased person as well as two other persons who had been assaulted.

A post mortem examination was conducted in Toronto on Wednesday August 9, 2017.

Arrest made in homicide case of Brayden Moonias

The Thunder Bay Police Service Criminal Investigation Branch has made an arrest in connection with the August 6, 2017 murder of 18 year old Brayden MOONIAS and an assault of a 52 year old man.

Brayden MOONIAS' body was discovered in the area of Marina Park and McVicar Creek on the morning of August 6, 2017. A short time later, an injured male was discovered in the vicinity Cumberland Street North and Marina Park Drive.

Investigators were able to establish that the same person was responsible for both of these crimes.
A 22 year old Thunder Bay man has been charged with 2nd Degree Murder, Aggravated Assault and Failure to Comply with a Recognizance (2 Counts).
The accused has a first appearance tomorrow.
His name can then be release before that time.

A court appearance was made this morning by 22 year old Patrick Elmer O'Keese of Thunder Bay in relation with the August 6, 2017 murder of 18 year old Brayden MOONIAS and an assault of a 52 year old man.

He appeared in court this morning charged with Second-Degree Murder, Aggravated Assault and Failure to Comply with a Recognizance X2.

He has been remanded into custody with a court date of September 22, 2017.

Skylar Masakayash, 22 years old of Thunder Bay has been remanded into custody after appearing in court this morning on Second-Degree Murder and Breach of Probation charges in relation to the death of Kevin Roundhead yesterday afternoon.

On Friday July 7th, 2017, two additional people were arrested in connection with the Homicide that occurred at McVicar Creek and Cumberland Street on July the 5th, 2017. 43 year old Emma MASSAKAYASH and 23 year old Jessie CHAPAIS have appeared in court on charges of Second Degree Murder, both have been remanded into custody.
The charges are in relation to the July 5, 2017 death of Kevin Roundhead.

NEW CHARGES LAID IN HOMICIDE CASE

The TBPS Criminal Investigations Unit has laid new charges in relation to the Carl Avenue homicides from July 1, 2017.

Further investigation has led to the charge of First Degree Murder (235 (1) cc) against 41-year-old Garnet Jay LOON in the death of 22-year-old Kory Lee CAMPBELL. 19-year-old Kailee Kailynn LOON has also been charged with Assault (266 cc) in relation to the same incident.

Both Garnet and Kailee LOON remain charged on July 2, 2017 with Second Degree Murder in the death of 50-year-old Robert Lloyd GRAY which occurred at the same Carl Avenue address.

Both accused parties appeared in person in court this morning to have their new charges read to them.

Kory Lee Campbell , age 22 of Thunder Bay Ontario and Cat Lake Ontario.

A post mortem will be conducted in Toronto on Wednesday, June 28, 2017.

Michael CLEGHORN is currently wanted for Second Degree Murder in connection to a homicide that occurred in Thunder Bay, Ontario, on May 22nd, 2017.

The Thunder Bay Police Service is looking for the public's assistance in locating the person or person's responsible for this death, which police believe was targeted and gang related.
Thus far, police have been able to identify a suspect vehicle observed fleeing the scene of the murder. The vehicle is described as being a newer model Mazda CX 5, dark charcoal or black in color.

Marks Street Death Investigation Confirmed A Homicide

The results of the postmortem have confirmed that the male died as a result of the trauma received in an altercation just prior to being located on May 22, 2017.
Police continue to work with the Coroner's office to assist in positively confirming the identity of the deceased male. The area of Marks Street at Arthur Street remains under control of the police at this time.

The 27 year old male has been identified and the next of kin have been notified. His identity is being withheld pending the result of a post mortem that will be conducted in Toronto.

The Thunder Bay Police Service is currently investigating the death of a female who was located in the Neebing McIntyre Floodway just before 9:00 p.m. on May 7, 2017.
A call was received by citizens who had located the deceased female in the water near the intersection of Redwood Ave and Ford Street. Emergency responders confirmed the female was deceased and the TBPS Criminal Investigations Branch have secured the scene and awaiting the results of the postmortem examination. The identity of the female is unknown at this time.
Anyone with any information about the possible identity of this female or information about seeing anyone in this area over the weekend is asked to call the police at 684-1200. This investigation is ongoing.

Tammy Keeash Investigation Update

A post mortem examination was conducted in Toronto on May 10, 2017, regarding 17 year old Tammy Keeash. Tammy was found deceased in the Neebing McIntyre floodway near Chapples Park the evening of Sunday May 7, 2017.
The TBPS was contacted by Tammy's guardian on Sunday May 7 at 1:28 p.m. to ask that police check the welfare of Tammy at a specific address. Tammy could not be located at that location. Tammy was then reported as missing by the guardian at 2:23 p.m. that day.
The results of the post mortem examination indicate that Tammy's death is consistent with drowning.
An extensive investigation by the Criminal Investigations Branch of the TBPS was able to determine that Tammy was last seen near the shore of the McIntyre Floodway at approximately 10:30 p.m. on Saturday May 6, 2017. Investigators have spoken to individuals who were with Tammy at that time. All individuals were known to each other.
At this point, there is no evidence to indicate criminality in this tragic death.

Tammy Keeash's death remains a Coroner's investigation.
