CLEGHORN will not be requiring Duty Counsel today. His Toronto lawyer, Stephen DiClemente has made the holiday flight to Thunder Bay to try get his client out of jail.
A family member of CLEGHORN has also made the trip with the lawyer. This is the first time I’ve seen an out of town lawyer fly in with a surety on a holiday to WASH court.
On Thursday December 20,2018 police executed a search warrant at a residence on Vickers Street.
The raid was conducted by the OPP’s Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau offices, along with police from Thunder Bay, Anishinabek Police Service and Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service.
Officers say as a result, four loaded handguns, a large amount of ammunition and illegal drugs including cocaine and fentanyl were seized.
A 27 year old JORDAN SUTHERLAND from Brampton was arrested on the scene and charged with two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking, four counts of possession of a loaded prohibited restricted firearm, four counts of knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm, four counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, four counts of careless use of a firearm, possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime over $5,000, possession of a firearm contrary to a prohibition order and possession of a firearm knowing the serial number has been tampered with.
SUTHERLAND has been in custody for 2 months now and is trying to get released on bail.
ZACREE CLEGHORN is the co-accused and faces similar charges. It is not known yet where CLEGHORN was arrested.
Federal Crown Ron Poirier is sending a message to these gangsters that if they come to do business in Thunder Bay, they can expect to face adversity in court.
Lawyer Stephen DiClemente was thinking that by bringing a surety and cash that the Federal Crown will release.
DICLEMENTE THOUGHT WRONG.
Federal Crown Ron Poirier intends on showing cause as to why ZACREE CLEGHORN should stay in jail. A special bail hearing is required and needs to be scheduled by the trial coordinator. It will be more than 2 hours.
The defence lawyer DiClemente will be spending the night in Thunder Bay and try again tomorrow to get his client released.
CLEGHORN will be brought in person tomorrow at 9am to the courthouse to meet with his lawyer. He most likely will not be released tomorrow.
