Thunder Bay, Ontario  –  December 5, 2017  (LSN)  The Thunder Bay Chill are pleased to announce that both recreational and competitive winter soccer programs will kick off this week. The last two winters has dealt the Chill significant challenges as they continue to operate programs through the winter months. A huge thanks to Lakehead University and the Thunder Bay Catholic School Board for finding times in their facilities to provide Chill youth some form of programming.

Training for competitive teams kicked off over the weekend, while recreational programs will launch this week with the largest group kicking off Monday at the Lakehead University Hangar. U4, U6, and U8 players will begin sessions at the Hangar field starting at 4:45pm. The LU Hangar will house all the recreational programming for the winter. “We were fortunate that fieldhouse management went out of their way to not only make room but ensuring our days and times fit the schedule that we had hoped for our kids,” stated Saverio Lento, Youth Director for the Thunder Bay Chill.

The Club was fortunate to work with Lakehead who made great efforts to maximize scheduling to allow for Chill programs. The department understands the value of soccer development in the community of Thunder Bay and have maximized efforts to assist with the Chill present situation and challenges that arise.

The Chill winter program will run from December to April with all sessions for recreational soccer to be played out of the LU Hangar. In addition, competitive teams will train in the Catholic High School gyms on weekends and at the Hangar. The LU fieldhouse gym will be used to participate in a league as a member of the Thunder Bay Women’s league.

The Thunder Bay Chill PDL team plays in the 72-team Premier Development League which is the top developmental men’s league in North America. It also provides programs for competitive travel teams from U8 to U18 in both male and female categories which serves as a platform for players who aspire to Provincial, National, and College/University level opportunities. In addition, the Chill offers recreational programming in the winter, spring, and summer for all youth who look to play, develop, and have fun while learning the skills of soccer.
