Norskies’ Simonson named SIJHL player of the week

THUNDER BAY. ONTARIO – October 18, 2017 The Superior International Junior Hockey League announced Monday that Thief River Falls Norskies forward Parker Simonson has been named the Play It Again Sports player of the week for the period ending Oct. 15.
In two outings last week the 20-year-old from Bismarck, N.D., racked up five points helping Thief River Falls extended their franchise-best winning streak to eight to begin the 2017-18 campaign.
Simonson began by tallying twice, including the game-winner, as the Norskies blanked the visiting English River Miners 3-0 at Ralph Engelstad Arena.
Saturday he scored again, giving him goals in all eight games this season, and set-up two more in a 7-1 romp over the Miners.
The Thief River Falls standout currently leads all SIJHL skaters in goals, points and game-winning markers with 11, 16 and three respectively.
The Norskies will put their eight-game winning streak on the line Friday as they pay a visit to Dryden where they will take on the second place GM Ice Dogs (6-0-1-1) in a 7:30 p.m. start at Memorial Arena.
Also earning consideration for SIJHL Play It Again Sports player of the week honours were the following:

Thief River Falls Norskies (SIJHL) new No. 1 in CJHL Top 20 rankings
Norskies lone remaining unbeaten & untied side in 132-team CJHL
CALGARY, Alta. – The Canadian Junior Hockey League (CJHL) Top 20 regular season rankings, for the period ending Oct. 16, features the Thief River Falls Norskies (SIJHL) taking over as the new No. 1.
MHL: Despite suffering their first two defeats the Edmundston Blizzard are still 9-2 overall as are the Yarmouth Jr. ‘A’ Mariners.
LHJAAAQ: With only one loss in regulation each the Cobras de Terrebonne and College Français de Longueuil still lead the way in the LHJAAAQ.
CCHL: The powerful Carleton Place Canadians have moved to sixth nationally while the Fred Page Cup-host
Ottawa Jr. ‘A’ Senators sit 20th in the CJHL rankings.
OJHL: The Toronto Patriots, Georgetown Raiders and Wellington Dukes stay in the Top 20 while the North York Rangers picked up honourable mention status.
NOJHL: The NOJHL winning percentage leaders, in the Powassan Voodoos, are up to 12th while the surging Soo Thunderbirds earn honourable mention.
SIJHL: CJHL No. 1 & unbeaten Thief River Falls puts their perfect record on the line Friday as they visit Dudley-Hewitt Cup-host Dryden, who remains seventh.
MJHL: A logjam near the top of the MJHL standings sees the Steinbach Pistons and Winkler Flyers in the Top 20 and the OCN Blizzard earning consideration.
SJHL: The Battlefords North Stars have yet to fall in regulation while the Melfort Mustangs, Estevan Bruins and Weyburn Red Wings are among the winning percentage leaders over in Saskatchewan.
AJHL: The Okotoks Oilers suffered their first loss last week, but they still pace the overall AJHL standings followed closely by the Fort McMurray Oil Barons.
BCHL: At 8-0-1 the Penticton Vees have moved to No. 2 overall in the CJHL rankings. Boasting the second-best winning percentage in the BCHL is the Trail Smoke Eaters who garnered honourable mention laurels this week in the weekly listings.
