THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO -  December 16, 2018  (LSN)  The Lakehead Thunderwolves will host the Laurentian Voyageurs for a pair of games in the Christmas Challenge at the Fort William Gardens on December 28th and 29th, with the opening face-off set for 7:00 p.m. on both nights.

 

The Matchup
Lakehead: 8-7-1 OUA, 12-8-1 overall (5th place West Division)
Laurentian: 5-10-1 OUA, 6-11-1 overall (8th place East Division)

Recent Results

Lakehead closed out the fall portion of its schedule with a pair of home losses to the division-leading Ryerson Rams, falling by scores of 5-3 and 7-1 to the squad ranked #6 in the nation.

Laurentian also dropped its last two decisions before the Christmas break, losing 5-2 at UQTR on consecutive nights.

Series History

The Thunderwolves have an all-time record of 8-2 versus the Voyageurs.The last meeting between the two teams took place in Thunder Bay in January of 2017, with Lakehead taking a weekend sweep over Laurentian by margins of 4-3 and 5-2.

About the Voyageurs

Located in Sudbury, the Voyageurs play in the East Division but geographically are Lakehead’s nearest rival of any team in the OUA.

Laurentian forwards Nicolas Dionne and Richard Therrien are both highly-skilled players ranked in the top ten of OUA scorers.

The defensive brigade is led by a pair of freshmen in Zack Wilkie and Cole Peck.

Michael Giugovaz is the Voyageurs’ top goalie and has posted a 2.86 GAA with a .922 SV% this season, impressive stats for the ‘tender of an eighth-place team.
